Why is Trump so apprehensive to denounce actions by Putin or Russia?

The problem is that Francis just can't even talk about having female or married priests. As a result Catholicism is failing and failing seriously. They have, for instance run out of places that are producing priests. In America, when I grew up, it was Ireland, the last groups were from Africa. Now there are none. In my town there is no longer a priest. There is still a Catholic school but, with no priest, that's starting to fail as well. In the end either the City of Port Angeles will have to buy the property or another religion will take over. In the whole of Europe municipalities are buying up all the old cathedrals for the tourists value (really! Actually I suspect they are just taking them over). There are no longer enough believers to support their churches!

I grew up a Catholic but haven't practiced in years. But, still, I hate to see a previously fairly functional social organization which, along with some bad has supplied a lot of social help over the centuries. But instead of cleaning up their act they have doubled down and they are on the way out.

Greek Orthodox is supposed to be co-equal to the Catholic Church, and most of their priests are married. I suspect that makes their priesthood very different from the Catholic priesthood.

Greek Orthodox has lots of priests! Catholics have very few.

Their ridiculous celibacy requirement certainly doesn't help. That's not in the Bible anywhere, and the Catholic Church does have some married priests: Married Episcopalian priests who convert to Catholicism are allowed to stay married. I imagine Eastern Orthodox priests who switch over have the same deal.

Used to be they could always screw the nuns or bugger the alter boys if their needs overcame their vows, but that's frowned on these days. Now they have to leave the priesthood to get any, and they have in droves. I think the only thing that can save them is to allow non-celibacy, both straight and gay.

Been watching "Rockford Files." My mom and dad never watched that show when I was going up. I've heard of it, but never seen it until this weekend.

Man!!! That James Garner on that show is sexy as fck!!!! Handsome, masculine, hairy - a real dream boat. smile

Its kinda interesting. Its my understanding that ANY preacher, from another religion, who converts gets to be a priest and keeps his family. its always amused me. If true, then they must also be willing to train them up. I remember the old days when the Catholics had a huge seminary to train the priests. They sold that off years ago. They changed the marriage thing during the middle ages. Seems that wives tended to want their husbands to own their own houses and this worried the greedy church so they went with no marriages. Same thing with female priests. They used to have them but changed that. I used to remember which big get together they did that in but they did do it. Often wondered what happened to the female priests.

If the church allowed for married and female priests all this child abuse thing would REALLY end! It would simply not be tolerated! I was told that there was another priest caught, this year, in, I think, Ohio. If you google on it there seems to be a LOT of that going on in Ohio!

https://www.cleveland.com/crime/2020/08/ohio-catholic-priest-faces-sex-trafficking-charges.html

I used to have a cousin who was a priest in Minnesota. If I remember correctly he was known as "Father Al". He built a new church and the bishop came to give it his blessings. They were in the house of the priest and the snow was deep outside. They bishop began to arm himself against the cold and my cousin told him there was no problem as they had a tunnel to the church. As they were walking to the church the bishop asked him, in jest, "Did you also build a tunnel from the nun's house to the church? He did, and the bishop went nuts and insisted that tunnel be collapsed before he went back home. That one too, always amused me.

I know one priest who left to marry a nun a couple of years ago. He told me that there are more than a thousand priests quite willing to go back to preaching if they would allow them to bring their families. They have not been allowed. I wonder, if they switched to Orthodox or Episcopalian, would they be welcomed? The whole thing, I think, is absolutely nuts and its taking down the Church.
