If you google: the Portuguese solution you will find many responses. The Portuguese solution has been the solution to drug problems and has been for a very long time.

Every now and then I point this out, just for the heck of it.

So yeah...progressives have been pushing for de-criminalization of drugs for years. Centrists are all "law and order" and longer sentences for black or brown drug users.

Marijuana is legal in some form in most states now and a better understanding of addiction and it's treatment is prevailing over the former "LOCK EM UP" attitudes.

The Portugese solution, just like the Scandinavian model, serves to show that advances are being made and our future might be brighter than many imagine.

Imagine how much money we could save if all drug problems were treated as medical issues instead of criminal. It would pretty much take out a lot of the violence associated with drug dealers, too. Why would anybody buy black market drugs, when they can just go to the free clinic and get a prescription for whatever they need?

Even as outrageous as our medical costs are they are far cheaper than incarceration. The amount of money wasted on our for profit gulag system is mind boggling.

One can only wonder how much money the drug business spends on fighting any kind of legalization. Betcha its in the billions. If anybody has any donation money left after the election here is a site that does good work:
