Apparently we are now not only "post racial", but "post gender" as well.:-) Former US President Bill Clinton (L) and his daughter Chelsea Clinton listen to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown speaks at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) September 2008 in New York. Bill Clinton said he would back his wife Hillary if she became secretary of state but has even bigger political hopes for their daughter Chelsea, in an interview released Wednesday. SOURCE: If the article had not pointed out that Bill Clinton was the one on the (L), I doubt if most of us would have been able to recognize which was which .;-)) Yours, Issodhos P.s. I must confess, I too was wondering why Caroline instead of Chelsea is a front runner for the plum -- given the historical patronage status of vacated senate seats.

Shame on Bill Clinton to have hope that his daughter will be successful in whatever path she may choose, be it politics or anything else.

I think Chelsea Clinton is a very bright young woman, and from what I've read of her, she's doing quite well in the business world. Things may change over time, of course, but to date my understanding is that she hasn't shown a lot of interest in politics.
Which, of course, is one of the reasons I think she's such a bright young woman.

Not sure when Chelsea turns 30. She's about the same age as my daughter. So I think she has an age issue; else I'm sure her name would be out there!!

... P.s. I must confess, I too was wondering why Caroline instead of Chelsea is a front runner for the plum -- given the historical patronage status of vacated senate seats. Heh! Heh! Heh!... Well, (1) the seat in question was that of Unca Bobby and is therefore part of the Kennedy feudal holdings, and (2) the Clinton "dynasty" is just...well?...you know?...too new, and (3) the real fly in th ointment is that she will not be of legal age for another fourteen (14) months.

yep, just checked and Chelsea is barred by the Constitution from serving in the Senate until February 2010.

A question?
Does the appointee serve out the balance of Clinton's term - she was reelected in 2006 - or just until the next general election?
If the latter is what happens, then it would be interesting to see a Clinton - Kennedy match-up in 2010.

As I undestand it, serves until 2010, then a special election for the last two years, then a new term in 2012. So chelsea could run then. but not against Caroline!

I am still flabbergasted that a previous poster would think that the Constitution is still an obstacle to anything a Democratic party or a Republican party wants to do.:-) Yours in wonderment, Issodhos

You missed the humor, Kap17. Why did the writer of the article think it necessary to point out to the reader that Bill Clinton was the one on the left?:-0 Yours, Issodhos
