So Assange has had his indictment upgraded to include charges about receiving secret information that the Washington Post and the New York Times could also be charged with. I think this is a ploy by the Trump administration to prevent him ever being extradited by England or Sweden to the US, since neither of those countries is going to send someone for political persecution. Upgrading the charges before extradition is either extremely stupid or tactical. I don't think Trump's guys are all extremely stupid.

I suppose if Assange was brave, he would call their bluff, wave extradition, and spill EVERYTHING at trial. He would likely be found not guilty of the receiving charges and the original charge was that he offered to help hack a DoD computer but failed. Maybe he could make a deal for a light sentence in exchange for testimony about other stuff, like all the involvement of the Trump campaign and Russia in publishing the stolen emails.
