Ever hear of the Climate Reality Project? It's something Al Gore started a couple of years ago. One of the things they proudly present on their website is that a their primary function is to educate folks about climate change. I got past all the "donate here" stuff and got ahold of a real person and asked what sorts of things they offer to educate people about what they can do.

They said that there are many ways of protesting and lobbying politicians to strengthen regulations about greenhouse gas production. I asked if there was any direct action that people could take to sequester CO2, and if they were interested - they told me they didn't get into that sort of thing.

Do people really not care about things they can do in their ordinary lives to reverse global warming?

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. I’ve read that about 90% of consumer-recycled plastic isn’t recycled; it’s trashed. My apartment complex doesn’t even have a facility for recycling plastic.

I have a friend who’s been vegan for years because, he says,
Meat is not sustainable - and he’s right. On the other hand, I know that beef at slaughter yield about 1400 lbs each. Even if I eat 200 lbs of beef a year, which I believe to be a real overstatement, if I stop eating beef entirely it will have the general effect of a fart in a windstorm - that windstorm being 7.6 BILLION pounds, from this state alone.

Until industry (including industrial farming) makes massive changes, until products are made and packaged with something other than plastic, I really have a hard time seeing how my actions can make a difference.

Understood, and let me say that your participation here makes a huge difference. I am so grateful to see you here again.
Hugs and much love, and I hope you've been able to stay safe from the virus.
