Let's think about this...

Yes, we had to suffer for four years of a lazy fat slob corrupt incompetent going around wrecking things we hold dear (selling rights to drill on pristine land, take away protections for wild life, allowing more pollution, embarrassing our country on the world stage), and what did we get in return?

Thousands of idiot Americans videoing themselves with metatag devices trying to overthrow the government.

Ol' Joe can fix all of Fatass Trump's EOs and rescind most, if not all of Trump's orders, but society will be rid of some really very stupid, really very mentally ill, gun-owning MAGAts who will finally be getting the mental health services they desperately need...in prison.

In the final analysis...America has won and came-out ahead.

I would of preferred that they laid hidden and did not have the opportunity to recruit and indoctrinate a bunch of formally apolitical jackasses into believing they are not responsible for their own lives and must go out and kill everyone who doesn’t look like them or believe that the most important things in the world are carrying around guns and screaming about a book of faerie tales they’ve never bothered to read, much less understand.

Lots of radicalized, extremist law enforcement participated in the attempted overthrow of the US government on January 6, 2021. They're being hunted-down and arrested.

It creates an issue where the public has a hard time believing that the ... decisions they make off duty do not impact their choices and decisions they make while on duty.

The people who really hate America self-select by going to events like the Capital insurrection or the Michigan statehouse invasion. It's important we put all of them in prison until they are grateful just to be out on weapon-free life-long probation.

They did recruit a lot of useful idiots, and it's important to, convince them they were misled and used. That may involve prison, weapons bans, probation, counseling, ankle monitors, etc. A lot of these folks are men suffering from testosterone poisoning, so chemical castration or mandatory tranquilization might be useful.

It's fine to believe anything you want, but we have to make it clear that when you act on those beliefs in a manner that harms others, you have to suffer the consequences.

...or vote. Oh the irony! LOL

Some will lose their right to vote. Some will die or be crippled by Covid-19. Some will lose their jobs or elected offices. All self-select. That's not irony. It's serendipity.

I think their actions have negated their "right" to bear arms, for life!
This is more important than the freedumb to own an AR15 to protect oneself from school-kids, even if they ARE on your lawn, and you feel threatened.

I figure most of these folks who were arrested will get little more than a wrist slap for their trouble.

After all, Kyle Rittenhouse is free, hanging out in bars, and is viewed as a celebrity by a majority of Republicans. His sentence will be light.

Remember the Bundy's? Where are they now?

There is no silver lining and Biden isn't going to fix much of anything.

I know! It's Day Three of the Biden Administration and why hasn't ol' Joe #LockedThesePeopleUp ?

Merrick Garland hasn't been confirmed yet. The wheels of justice are slow. Kyle is going to make a fine prison-bitch. smile

Maybe a year for manslaughter...How bout that guy who killed Trayvon Martin? He's still in jail, right?
Posted By: Greger Re: The Trump Era's silver lining - 01/23/21 05:19 PM
Now, the Brutha who stole a pair of hedge clippers got a 99 year sentence...and served 24 before he was paroled.

Joe doesn't even wanna legalize weed...although I expect it will happen under his watch.

Slate has a story about the Supreme Courts decision that religion trumps public health:

Supreme Court Decision Can Kill People

Interesting thing: They know little about medicine, and did not consult any public health authorities before making their decision that churches are not subject to a Governor's public health rules. But I have mixed feelings about their ruling. The silver lining is that their decision is going to kill the right people.

Churches can hold inside services where congregants sing without masks. Can they sue the church when a family member contracts Covid-19 at that church service? Apparently people can sue the church when the priest sodomizes little Bobby. Can they sue when the church kills him?

I think we need a little common sense when it comes to Public Health in this country. The Constitution is not a suicide pact.

I think they should have mandated that there should be no masks and all the flock should hold each other's hands. I think this is only fair as they only did half the job thereby allowing many to escape a personal meeting with one side or the other in the afterlife.

> a personal meeting with one side or the other in the afterlife

According to Matthew 25, everybody gets to meet Jesus at the final judgement. Then he sends all the azzholes to Hell.

Just saying, that's what Christians are supposed to believe. I plan on meeting some nice little crabs.

Obviously, when they dump my body off the end of the pier. I think my after life story is a lot more likely than Matthew 25.

After life is death. It's just like falling asleep, but you don't wake up.

Then they clean up the mess you left.

David Frum puts it in perspective.

Drinking my coffee and reflecting on the state of humanity this early morning, and how rudderless “civilization” is when so many people have no regard (or insufficient regard) for the need of honesty, integrity, and ethics in public and personal interactions - and the immense frustration in seeing that those key character traits are the bedrock for curing virtually everything that ails us - I came across the interview linked above.

There is a calming effect of perspective, but not necessarily a hopeful one.

All Frum Atlantic

I read Frum frequently in the Atlantic, yeah they are long and sometimes give you more than you want or can digest, but they rarely leave you hanging.

Speaking of hanging, we saw Cruz and Hawley go into the dressing room with rump "defense" team for the fitting of their fig leaves for today's hearings! I'm not sure I can watch the fig leaf fascist show in real time.
I'm only heartened by the fact that very few fig trees had to be sacrificed to cover the micro-cajones of GOP senators. I frankly think that tight Lycra thongs would be more appropriate to show America the true GOP package!

>Frum's interview

Exactly what I was saying. The wheels of justice are going to tarnish these "patriots" over the next couple of years. A lot of Republicans are going to find their conservative roots, and yearn for the GOP of Reagan, Goldwater, and even Eisenhower. Their members of congress are going to compare very badly to the GOP members of congress those times.

I read your post right after texting my son who lives in Charlotte NC, that he had the good luck opportunity to vote against a Rump again. grin
He takes politics seriously and when I ribbed him about living in a red state after rump took NC, he wounded me, grievously, by pointing out that he had been gerrymandered into a blue district, while I remain trapped similarly in blue University town in a fvcking Red district mad
