What is up, "Northern Colorado?" Oh, you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of having those elitist cosmopolitans from Denver and, um...Boulder...(I guess?)...ramming their sneering liberalness down your throats? And you think you should probably get your own state and your very own two Senators because...democracy?

Will this new state be called Colowhiter? Will cows be considered 3/5th of a vote in this new state also too? Providing that a majority of the House and Senate are to say okay sure whatever I guess, amIright?

Tell us Ranters all about it Washington Times:
Quote:
Voters in several rural Colorado counties will be asked whether they want to form a new state tentatively named Northern Colorado in the November election, a reaction to the Democrat-controlled state legislature’s "war on rural Colorado."

A war! Oh noes! There should be a closer look at some of these battles and skirmishes and foofaraws, probably.

Oh, whoops! The story does not tell us any?!? Are we to start GUESSING that it has to do with Kenyan Impostor Jr., John Hickenlooper, taking away your gunz and forcing you to smoke the marijuana, NoCol?

Indeed, one cow, one vote - just the way the Founding Fathers™ intended.

I think the Invisible Hand will actually take care of this, in time: Liberals who seek a rural life will find these properties more desirable than comparable properties in Wyoming or Nebraska. Conservatives will find them less desirable, but get a good price from the Liberals.

To help this process along, put your ranch up for sale! Anybody who doesn't like living in Colorado should be very happy that there are others who are interested in buying their property, because of the very political climate they dislike.

Of course, that story is from the Reverend Moon Propaganda Sheet, so not too surprising it is best suited for sticking on a nail in the outhouse.

ahhh ... weeeell ... yeah

of course they want to beak away from the tyranny and oppression of state government

here's hoping for the best in a non-representative government ... they would be the Tea peoples favorite state ... no government ... no emissaries to any other state ... no public services ... i wonder who will order a road crew out or who orders a levy for the militia? ahhhh .... minor details of freedom and liberty

freedom and liberty smells like northern colorado

I am actually a bit surprised that Colorado Springs has not inserted itself into this somehow. The people in that area are batshit crazy. I had a friend who was forced off the road on I-25 some years back because her car had a pro-choice bumper sticker on it. The perps pulled her out of the car, beat her, and set the car on fire. The police acted as though she had instigated the whole thing by having the temerity to flaunt such "stupid ideas" as one cop put it.

On a changeover at the Denver Airport, we ran into some of those loonies, who were deplaning from another flight. You could tell, because of the slogans on their T-shits. One was of all the Democratic candidates(this was in the early part of 2008) and they all had targets on them. These fools do not realize that they could not sustain themselves as a state, or that they would have to adhere to federal laws and that their state laws would have to conform to the US Constitution, and would still be subject to any SCOTUS rulings. And they would still have to allow everyone to traverse their state.

Sure, as long as they have a photo ID

Which puts me to thinking....
what is the point of having a photo ID for African Americans...
Hmm

Having lived in CO for many years now, I can say that I've watched a lot changes (hey, we were even a swing state in the last election!). That, in itself, is pretty amazing. When I moved here 37 years ago, with a few exceptions (Boulder, Aspen, parts of Denver) it was redder than red. That is slowly changing as more folks move in from outside. Those counties pushing for this 51st State stuff are mostly located in the north eastern corner of the state close to Nebraska and Kansas. As some see it, those are the "good ol' boys" who think oil rigs all over the landscape are just fine, thank you. And, when our state legislature (supported by our governor) had the audacity to pass gun control legislation asking for back ground checks and limiting the number of rounds sold in a gun magazine, that group went ballistic. It didn't matter that we have had two of the more horrific mass public killings in our state (Columbine and Aurora theater shootings) or that our own Head of Corrections had just been assassinated when he answered his own front door one night, those fellas out east would have none of it and started this whole 51st State nonsense. I guess when we passed laws legalizing marijuana and allowing civil unions, the holier-than-thou folks down in Colorado Springs jumped on the bandwagon too. Yes, they're loud and love to follow some of our more zealot right wing state loonies (Tom Tancredo comes to mind), but I am hopeful they are still in the minority. All this 51st state talk has brought up some great name suggestions for the planned new state -

What Do We Call the 51st State?

My personal favorite...Crackpotopia crazy

The gun issue really got this 51st state thing going, but oil and gas drilling out on the eastern plains has definitely added "fuel to the fire" (no pun intended). I found this picture on another link Rick cited elsewhere. These oil wells are everywhere in the eastern side of I-25, but that's also become a big area for new home development. The old guard likes to be able to "frack" for oil and such on their properties. A lot of newcomers scream foul due to health concerns. CO scenery
