Representative Jerry Nadler, Chair of the House Judiciary committee, has sent requests for information to 81 people and entities involved with Trump - campaign, inaugural, business, foundation, and White House. Republicans want to cast it as a "fishing expedition", but it's more like fishing at the grocery store with all the products lined up neatly on ice in the display case. The list provides a clear picture of just how much trouble Trump is in. Nadler, who often strikes me as a bit of a blow hard, is, nonetheless, a dogged, smart, and careful prosecutor - kinda like Mueller.
The other important aspect of the list is that it precedes release of the Mueller report, so AG Barr cannot sweep it under the rug. The administration and its propaganda arm, Fox, are signaling stonewalling on everything, but Nadler, like Mueller, will be unafraid of using sanctions to get what he needs. One or two parties brought up on contempt charges - including jail time - will change that tune quickly. Moreover, it will make for bad press in an election year. The GOP will be over a barrel with only themselves to blame - Benghazi.
