Elizabeth Jo Shirley, of Hedgesville, West Virginia, has admitted to unlawfully retaining a document containing national defense information and committing international parental kidnapping, Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers and U.S. Attorney William J. Powell for the Northern District of West Virginia announced.

Shirley, 46, pled guilty to one count of Willful Retention of National Defense Information and one count of International Parental Kidnapping. Shirley admitted to unlawfully retaining a National Security Agency (NSA) document containing information classified at the TOP SECRET/SECRET COMPARTMENTED INFORMATION (TS/SCI) level relating to the national defense that outlines intelligence information regarding a foreign governments military and political issues. Shirley also admitted to removing her child, of whom she was the non-custodial parent, to Mexico with the intent to obstruct the lawful exercise of the custodial fathers parental rights.

...

She doubled down on this betrayal when she sought to offer classified information to the Russian government. We are grateful for our law enforcement partners timely work to locate and arrest the defendant in Mexico.

What's the dealio with right-wingers and their love of Russia these days? Hmm

Was there some info that pegged her as a right-winger? And the story was not clear: Did she want to sell info to the Russians because she wanted to get daughter away from her ex? Or did the espionage come first, and the daughter an afterthought?

Espionage came first, getting back at her ex, second. West Virigina and clandestine government work usually are not hallmarks of Liberalism. Hmm

...but also thinking about Trump and his affinity to let Russia help him cheat and his supporters who approve it. That's not showing a love for America. smile

I don't think this had anything at all to do with politics.

It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

I just don't get it. When I read that she wanted the Russians to set her up in a country without an extradition treaty with us, I thought that this was just her plan for a cushy retirement. But she had a good job with (I assume) good retirement benefits. She gave all that up to commit espionage or treason or whatever the charge is. There was nothing going on that she objected to or wanted to reveal ... she just found valuable information and decided to sell her soul for profit. It's weird, like she just went nuts one day.

That seems like the most reasonable explanation. Maybe it was Corona virus-induced panic. Thought she and her kid could escape Trump's Big Koolaid Party.

But she didn't have custody of her kid, the husband did. Hmm

Given the usual prejudices of family courts, this is a strong indicator she was mentally troubled or something similar. I wonder why the government did not pick up on this and revoke her clearance. Maybe these days, mental issues are a feature instead of a problem.

Mental illness doesn't seem to be a problem to be able to work in the Trump Administration. coffee
