Saying the quiet part out loud: Trump says he opposes funding USPS because of mail-in voting (CNN).
Quote:
President Donald Trump said Thursday that he opposes much-needed funding for the United States Postal Service because he doesn't want to see it used for mail-in voting this November.

By directly linking USPS funding to mail-in voting, Trump is fueling allegations that he is trying to manipulate the postal system for political gain. The pandemic has led to record-shattering levels of voting-by-mail, but Trump has tried to restrict the voting method because he says it will hurt his re-election and Republicans across the board.
During an interview on Fox News, Trump said that if USPS does not receive the additional $25 billion funding request that Democrats included in the ongoing stimulus negotiations, then he believes the Post Office won't be able to handle the influx of mail-in ballots in the upcoming election.
"They want three and a half billion dollars for something that'll turn out to be fraudulent, that's election money basically. They want three and a half billion dollars for the mail-in votes. Universal mail-in ballots. They want $25 billion, billion, for the Post Office. Now they need that money in order to make the Post Office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots," Trump said, repeating his false claims that mail-in voting would be "fraudulent."
"But if they don't get those two items that means you can't have universal mail-in voting because you they're not equipped to have it," Trump added.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Actually, postal workers have been told they are not going to be paid for overtime to clear backlogs, etc. But they will be: Once Biden is President, he'll get that Republican 75 year pension funding attempt to kill the post office repealed, and the post office will have plenty of money to pay all the unpaid overtime.

All they need to do is to keep track of their unpaid overtime hours.

I think it's time for a Republicans to pull their balls out of the jars on their desks (you too, Liz), and have a bipartisan, veto-proof bill to give USPS the money.

Republicans are no more interested in funding the post office than trump is...remember fewer votes is better for republicans...a private post office would mean more money for the very wealthy and more kickbacks to the republicans who made it possible.

Under ordinary circumstances, universal vote-by-mail would be a disaster for Republicans. But in the midst of a pandemic, I think suppression of vote-by-mail could actually hurt Trump. A lot of his support comes from old people, the very people who risk their lives by voting in person and might not be able to handle hours of waiting to get into the voting booth. This time a lot of Trump votes will arrive by mail.

It will be interesting to see if Trump loses in close races because a lot of mail ballots were not delivered, going to voters or coming back to the vote counters.

To the best of my knowledge they are not tearing out mailboxes here in Florida.

Maybe all the states that could pass an emergency bill should get those ballots printed and sent out ASAP. I doubt Trump's sabotage could delay the mail by two and a half months.

If the P.O. classifies the mail as 4th class bulk it can delay it a long time. How long? I do not know, but it might be possible for 2 to 4 weeks.

Ballots are not 4th class, by any stretch of the imagination.
