Hi folks. I know some of you are fellow lefties (West Coasters), but for those who are not: this is bad. I've lived here for more than 30 years, and I've seen nothing like this. One tenth of Oregon's population is under evacuation orders. 6 of the 20 worst fires in California history are burning NOW. Usually when the air quality gets this bad, we can bug out in our RV to somewhere the air is better. We've got nowhere to go. The plume of smoke is so large it shows on weather photos. This is the current Fire and Smoke Map. We encountered Two fires on our way to a local appointment. This is definitely thoughts and prayers time.

Yep, we got it up here and, I am sure, Canada is getting it as well. Apparently, according to maps and weather folks, the smoke went out above the Pacific and stored itself. When there was enough to do something with it sent it up for us. Right now the smoke is blocking the sun and its almost kinda cool outside, around 61 degrees with a cold breeze as well. I remember when Canada sent us their smoke a couple of years ago. I wonder if this is one of them "turnabout is fair game" things.

I should add that, last night, a wind came up, blew away all the smoke and revealed the sky! This morning we just didn't have smoke but the sun was completely obscured - no big red sun for us! We are hiding inside the house.

Oddly, I don't think I've heard the President or any other GOPer sending thoughts and prayers to the Democratically controlled West.

I'd get the f*ck outa there if I was ya'll. I've got a few bedrooms here if anyone wants to take a chance on hurricanes over fires...

Good coffee, good weed, and time on my hands...

Why aren't "they" seeding the clouds with silver iodide to make it rain? It'll get rid of the smoke and kill the fires. Hmm

We've been sitting at just under 200 since yesterday, but no where to run. My son in Beaverton is at 300. The Olympic Peninsula is blanketed, too.

So check out this site. One can plug in though their proprietary search engine virtually every city etc and get a reading on their current air quality.

Eugene is currently over 400 ppm.

Curious and scary stuff:

Air quality readings

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Port Angeles is at 225 and my wife is insisting that I stay in the house and not go out. I am currently in my hole but will be going inside pretty soon. I also see where its not gonna go anywhere very soon. People with breathing problems are gonna be experiencing bad things I fear. Given my own COPD I have noticed a difference myself.

Now its Monday and the AQI is up to around 275! The prediction is that it will last until after tomorrow morning.

Blue skies today, and the air quality is 106 (upgraded to merely Unhealthy). I do go outside to water the garden (it's 91 degrees), but I've set up soaker hoses so I can just go out to turn them on and off. My wife has a HEPA filter air cleaner inside the house, and it pretty consistently says "Good" when she runs it. Dogs are all sleeping inside in the air conditioning, just using their dog doors for peeing and drinking water. My big male lab does go out several times a day to lie down in the kiddy pool. Not as amphibious as a frog, but probably more like a toad.
