Mike Bloomberg is one of Joe Bidens most generous donors and is fighting to help him win Florida in the general election and that includes paying the fines of almost 32,000 African-American and Latino voters who have felony convictions.

Per Washington Post:

Quote:
Bloomberg and his team have raised $16 million for a program organized by the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition to pay the fines, fees and restitution costs for former prisoners who are already registered to vote in Florida but barred by law from participating in the election because of those outstanding debts.

This is awesome, that's 32,000 votes ahole Republicans won't be getting because of their shenanigans of the illegal Floi-duh poll tax. smile

But the one problem with that, is that Florida has kept no records about what was owed or what has already been paid. So ex-felons can ask the state what they owe, and the state just says "Don't know." The ex-felon can sign a registration form saying they are qualified to register, but the state can later "find" the records and charge them with a felony. The state is perfectly fine with never collecting what is owed and keeping ex-felons from voting forever, in spite of what the people voted for.

Actually the state has kept records and the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition will help facilitate getting these debts erased.

Well...here's a surprise. Who saw this coming? coffee

Florida AG is Criminally Investigating Bloombergs Payment of Ex-Felons Fines

Quote:
At the request of the governor, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) on Wednesday ordered her office to open an investigation into whether former Democratic presidential nominee Michael Bloomberg violated state law when he raised more than $16 million to pay fines that would enable more than 32,000 convicted felons to regain the right to vote.

In a letter to Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Commissioner Richard Swearingen and FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson made public on Wednesday afternoon, Moody said her initial review of Bloomberg was prompted by a request from Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

Moody concluded that based on limited public information and law it appeared that the allegations warranted further investigation, citing specifically to a 2016 advisory opinion from the Florida Division of Elections.

How many times do Republicans / Rightwingers have to prove that they're walking, talking, rectums aka aholes? Shouldn't us decent folks believe them the first time? Hmm

Makes perfect sense...once you become a part of the gulag system, you lose the right to vote.

Republicans are old school about voting rights.

White Christian male land-owners.

Rich white guys. They aren't all assh*les...a few of them are Democrats...but mostly, yeah...from where I sit they're all assh*les.

And they've got the votes to keep their little bunghole club in power through sheer bullying and bluster.

What were we talking about anyway...Good on Bloomberg but if he isn't fighting just as hard to pay white people's fines and fees as he was POCs then a point might be made somewhere about something...

It isn't illegal for a private citizen to favor Black folks or Democrats, as long as he isn't buying votes. It would be illegal for government to do it. But Bloomberg is perfectly free to discriminate all he wants. And if some of those ex-felons vote for Trump, Bloomberg will never know and certainly will not take back the money.

If I remember correctly, when they put this thing into effect there were requests for the amounts of each debt and the state didn't even have that data or wouldn't release it to the victims. This little trick kinda stopped anybody from complying, even if they had the money.

Figures. Republicans excel at incompetence. It's the only thing in life they're ever good at. coffee
