Why some kids stick with their parents' political views and others rebel.

My wife and I have speculated about what an interesting marital or martial dynamic must exit between Mary Matlan and the rajun Cajun James Carvelle. I read an interesting article about them a while back, and they are forbidden to discuss their kids politics. It is an interesting situation in development about how one separates from parents to become their own person. Lots of possible conflicts, as it's problematic to reject one parent's views, or more confusing both parents views.

This has spilled out very publicly into social networking in the drama of Conway VS Conway, VS Conway JR, and is now controversial if a 15 year old young lady's views are fair game for exposure. She is now very anti-he who came before Biden, but maybe not as confusing as if Her mother really believed the alternative facts that she spewed for money and fame and power.

Some children of Republican politicians, like Claudia Conway and Caroline Giuliani, have been vocal in speaking out against their parents' views.
Politically engaged parents are more likely to pass on a partisan label to their children when they're living at home, but they also transmit an interest in politics that can lead their kids to form their own views later on.
Social media allows young people to seek new influences without leaving their homes.
Politically divided marriages, although rare, can also increase the likelihood the kids will strike out on their own.

It's not the first time the tenor of the times has shifted a generation towards the left, she said. Those who grew up during the New Deal stayed quite loyal to the Democratic Party throughout their lives compared to the older New Deal generation.
Politically divided marriages are rare, but can leave more up to the child

Stoker noted that in the case of the Conways, the parents' opposite stances on Donald Trump may have created uncertainty in the home.

"You find the child much more likely to break, to be similar to neither or to sort of move apart, if the parents are not united. And that is fairly rare," Stoker said.

Today, just over 20% of marriages are politically mixed, and most of those involve an independent or third-party voter. Only 4% of marriages include a Democrat and a Republican, according to data from the American Family Survey.

Parents who shift their political views later in life, like George Conway, also leave their kids more pliable to influence, Stoker said. Aside from coming from a trusted source, political messaging has to be consistent to make an impression, so a shift leaves room for questions and reconsideration.

I don't think George Conway has shifted his political views. He was a conservative before Trump, and he's still a conservative. Kelly Anne, on the other hand, has gone from conservative to fascist cult member.

Kelly Anne is way too smart to believe the rump crap, but she was bought and paid for. She is a shameless first class hypocrite, so the parenting dynamic is not such a political conflict, as both parents are very conservative, one just sold out on the cool-aid. Hubby just couldn't drink it. There's still plenty of conflict, just more over ethics and tolerance of shame, which might be worse than political conflict about ideology. So, what happens to a kid in the middle of of it all?

It seems like some political independents are likely to arise from the ambivalence generated by the rejection of both parents ideologies, rather than an actual choice.

Seems Claudia just wants to get the Hell Out Of There. She's trying to get emancipated, but kids generally have to show the court they can support themselves and be adult-level responsible for that. That's probably why she's trying to get on TV and such.

I think a separate domicile so she can be away from her mother might be a good idea. Her father just needs to rent a two bedroom apartment for the two of them for a couple of years. He should be thinking about Claudia's welfare, as long as her mom is crazy. I bet there are a LOT of kids who are dealing with insane parents right now with Qanon Collapse Syndrome. This might be something Child Protective Services needs to pay attention to. A few of the more extreme folks have already threatened to kill their kids.

Young people are typically more liberal than their parents and the MAGA phenomenon is a hot divisive mess. Many from conservative households are torn between what their parents have taught them and what their own eyes and ears are reporting. Many are realizing their gaslit upbringing is not entirely truthful.

Some are finding a balance. Some are breaking away. Some are just along for the ride and don't give a rat's ass about any of it.
