The reason Harry Truman was selected to be the Vice President under Roosevelt was because when he ran the Senate “Truman Committee”, it found so much corruption and waste, he saved the government $10-15 billion, which was several times the cost of the entire $2 billion Manhattan project.

In 1947 Truman then created the Hoover Commission. This one resulted in billions of dollars being saved every year. There has not been an overhaul of government administration since then. We have a bureaucracy that, I expect, REALLY needs attention! This is NOT a political problem so much as an administrative problem and Its REALLY time!

Oh, I know, I mention this everytime I can because i think its REALLY important and we need an overhaul! (I also found it interesting how Truman became Vice President) It would be nice if we had a president that was interested in such stuff as we haven't had one since 1949! This doesn't mean this president couldn't do this, it, I think, its unlikely (but possible!)

I just sent this to Biden for the hell of it

Corruption and waste are so ingrained into governments that I don't think the two can ever be separated. Not just our government, but every government in history.

There has to be some sort of political desire to root it out without it becoming partisan warfare which only roots out the corruption and waste of political opponents rather than the systemic problems which causes it in both parties.

I think my point was that Truman actually tried to fix it, as a member of congress. In other words he tended to believe and try to fix what was wrong instead of the current crop who seem to have two things in mind 1)self agrandizement and 2)hammer the evil others. There are some that don't and really want to do their jobs but, in the main, we don't have many of those and that is a problem! The other point is that all the members of congress have been sent their by those who voted for them. This, unfortunately, means that there is an electorate which is, obviously, ignorant, believers in everything but self and reality, not particularly bright, and incredibly lazy. Basically, in the end, THEY are responsible for the mess we have!

One can only wonder...............

Maybe he did. Or maybe he just used it as political catapult into the Whitehouse. Perhaps it was nothing more than a political ploy...red meat for the base...populist imaging in a primitive partisan press.

Were both parties targeted by the commission? …or just the evil "other"?

I'm curious... but not curious enough to Google it.

No parties were targeted just the actions of them that got caught and they pretty much skated although the problems found were stopped. There were no politics involved in either case. (both the Truman commission and the Hoover commission (I left a link to that one. The Hoover commission was responsible for something like 8 governmental 'adjustments'). I hve always admired Truman. When he left the presidency he was flat out broke (unlike the currently retired).
