'Disturbing and reckless': Retired brass spread election lie in attack on Biden (Politico). "The open letter from 124 retired officers alarmed current and former military members concerned about the politicization of the military."

Quote
A day after 124 retired generals and admirals released a letter spreading the lie that President Joe Biden stole the election, current and former military officers are speaking out, calling the missive a dangerous new sign of the military being dragged into the trenches of partisan warfare.

The open letter on Monday from a group calling itself Flag Officers 4 America advanced the false conspiracy theory that the presidential vote was rigged in Biden's favor and warned that the nation is "in deep peril" from "a full-blown assault on our Constitutional rights."
In a weak defense of the letter, it is an escalation of letters produced by other defense officials criticizing Trump's behavior and the January 6 insurrection (yes, it was an insurrection, by definition). And, it demonstrates that there are differences in the views of former military members. What I find disturbing is their deliberate use of their ranks in its publication, a violation of the UCMJ (as well as its bizarre content). This is, in my view, am exercise in Trumpism - blatant abuse of office for political gain. I welcome other views.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

This was my greatest fear following the election i.e. that some military would openly participate in the overthrow of a duly elected government. It would seem my fears were well founded. There is apparently a significant group of line officers who are not only political but are willing to take the next step. At what point will these guys begin ordering non-coms to occupy the WH?

I think there is little doubt some of these guys have already recruited Trump loyalists in cadres ready to be deployed. Ask yourself, do the Joint Chiefs have real control over the troops.
