He is guilty of choosing to have a weapon he was not legally permitted to have in his possession. That illegal possession allowed him to kill two people and wound another. He's 17, and should have been home in bed which was in another state. NOBODY invited Kyle to cross state lines in the middle of the night to defend a used car lot.

THIS is where it gets political for me: Only a Rightwinger would think of such a thing.

I see the whole drama as a surrogate battle over the 2nd Amendment.

Gun rights vs gun responsibilities. Ultimately, Seconders are against any restrictions regarding guns - the rest of us want them well regulated.

Rittenhouse guilty = win for regulation
Rittenhouse innocent = win for no regulation

A lot of the comments on the Free Speech Zone are about the 2nd A. A striking one was that the 2A exists primarily to provide individuals (“patriots” presumably) with the means to use violence to fight the government. I was struck by the similarity of that perspective to the rationale of the Stop The Steal insurrectionists.

It also resembles Trump’s resistance to having his records released to Congress to likely be used to hang him for treason. His legal argument right now is that he is protecting the office of the Presidency, when we all know he is just frantically trying to save his own ass. The incredible evil irony of it is that he is tearing apart the country so that he can “lead” it again.

What would we have if he is successful? A sort of violent anarchy headed up by an autocratic dictator. Sounds like a Schwarzenegerian apocalyptic dystopian action flick - bet it would dominate at the box office!

On second thought, I think it would be more like a Gibsonian Road Warriors theme.

Of course, the very purpose of government is to manage the chaos that humans are so inclined to when given complete freedom.

The Free Speech Zone is a real-time example of the level of interaction where people go when there are no rules. It's truly sick, and will make a saner person feel sick if you try to engage there for any length of time.
