This IS happening as we speak. The arctic ice is almost gone. The permafrost is melting in the far North and whole towns are being destroyed because they were built on ice. That melted permafrost is starting to out-gas methane. Ships are using the Arctic ocean as a shortcut when they never could even 10 years ago. The West Antarctic Ice Shelf is very rapidly slipping into the ocean.
